The optical mouse’s fame really raised for the better in the late 1990s when it started being delivered as an extra feature to a lot of computer systems. The optical mouse got more and more embraced among users because it made working with the mouse much easier compared to the classic ball mouse. Since those times getting a hold of a regular ball mouse has become somewhat of a challenge.
At heart, optical mice are equipped with an optoelectronic sensor (a small low-resolution video camera) which makes successive images of the surface on which the mouse operates. The photos of the surface that the sensor makes are captured in continuous succession and compared with each other in order to determine how far the mouse has moved.
The laser mouse is much more accurate than a regular optical mouse.
